abandoned farm Matt Mawson Date: 13 May 2007 Matt Mawson - We took a back road while driving back from Lightning Ridge and came across this farm north of Inverell. I have used dodge & burn and saturation brushes to enhance the
lighting.
Blue Mountain Rock Cate Keen Date: 13 May 2007 Cate Keen - The image that I have chosen is of a partial view of the Middle Sister in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales, Australia. The image was taken during a long walk through the Blue Mountains National Park around 10am on a cool autumn morning. The light was quite good to focus on the detail in the rock due to the mist in the background and the overall cloud cover. I did not need to use a tripod for this image and aperture was set at f11. My camera is a Nikon Coolpix 5700 (digital SLR) and I have photoshop software. I only manipulated the image through minimal sharpening and slight colour enhancement.
Canberra Flags Bill Atherton Date: 13 May 2007 Bill Atherton - In Canberra for the balloon fiesta April 2007
The lights and wind blown flags on the waterfront down from the old parliament house fascinated me. In the background we see the telstra tower and a lone star above.
Camera Nikon D200, 18-70mm kit lens.
Cazneaux's tree Mark Thomas Date: 13 May 2007 Mark Thomas
As a longtime lover of the beauty of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia, I have taken many images of the area over the years. But my favourite is one I took after seeing Harold Cazneaux's famous image "Spirit of Endurance" (http://nla.gov.au/nla.pic-an2384497). I went to this location intending to try to emulate his image and show how the tree had changed over the years.. but the soft golden light that fell on the landscape made me reach for color film instead and take a different view.

It is worth noting that this image was taken in the early eighties, and the tree looks quite different now - not quite as majestic perhaps, but still an inspiring sight in its twilight years.

Clapped Out Farm Machinery, Limestone Coast, South Australia David Clayton Date: 13 May 2007 David Clayton - I took this photograph when on travels through the Limestone coast region in South Australia. Spotting the old windmill, I pulled over to seek a good photograph. It was drizzling lightly. Spotting the old car, I moved in to capture that water clogged landscape. I shot this image back in 2003 using an old Canon AE-1P, with a 200mm f2.8 lens, on Fuji Sensia transparency. It's only recently that I've had it professionally scanned. I've removed the dust, cropped, and tweaked the colour ever so slightly. Perhaps the hardest part was finding the complimentary colour for the faux matte. I felt it wasn't quite complete, so went in search of a good quote. Leonardo da Vinci came up with the goods; the imprinted quote of his is quite poignant and fitting for today.
Coonawarra Vines, South Australia David Clayton Date: 13 May 2007 David Clayton - It's so hard to take a good photography of vineyards, and I really think that I just got lucky. It was the golden hour, dark storm clouds, and the vines laid out over the gently undulating land. I took this photograph using a pocket digital camera. I've cropped the image, tweaked the colours a little, and added the faux matte for effect.
cradle mountain Moira Casanova Date: 13 May 2007 Moira Casanova - This photo is of a little stream that runs next to one of the early settlements within the Cradle Mountain National Park in Tasmania.
Currumbin Mark Thomas Date: 13 May 2007 Mark Thomas
My preference is for deserted beaches, far away from the crowds.. but this is perhaps a more 'urban' image of beachlife in Australia. I noticed that the afternoon light looked unusual, with the background sea and cityscape darkened by clouds. So I climbed to the top of
Elephant Rock, and then took several shots back towards Currumbin Rocks with Surfer's Paradise in the distant background. This one had the most interesting activities and 'poses' from the unwitting participants!

Djoyobisono_After-dark Harjono Djoyobisono Date: 13 May 2007 Harjono Djoyobisono - A night view of the city of Melbourne from the 55 th floor Observation Deck Rialto Tower. I use Canon EOS 30D equipped with Sigma 15mm diagonal fish eye lens to dramatize the horizon to take the photograph. I used RAW format, converted into TIFF using DxO software. I did the final tuning (including level, contrast adjustment, resizing and a bit sharpening) using Photoshop CS2.

Lens: Canon 70-200 2.8L IS
Shutter Speed: 6 Seconds
Aperture: f11
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 130mm

For this image the camera was tripod mounted and a long shutter speed of 6 seconds used, as this allowed for "smooth" water to be captured. The image was shot in RAW format and processed in Capture One. Further enhancements to contrast and saturation where carried out in Photoshop using various techniques.

The background of the image is natural fog and no filters or Photoshop modifications have been used to create the effect.
Dusk in Melbourne Harjono Djoyobisono Date: 13 May 2007 Harjono Djoyobisono - A view of the city of Melbourne at dusk from the 55 th floor Observation Deck Rialto Tower. I used Canon EOS 30D with lens Canon EF 17-35mm f/2.8. This photograph is High Dynamic Range (HDR) from three different exposures. RAW format files were converted into TIFF using DxO software. To create HDR image, I used PhotoMatix. Finally, I used Photoshop CS2 to do the final tuning (level, contrast adjustment, resizing and a bit sharpening).
Forster Walk Cate Keen Date: 13 May 2007 Cate Keen - The image that I have chosen is of Forster, Mid North Coast in New South Wales, Australia. The image was taken on a beautiful sunny summers day around 2pm. I was walking along the foreshore at Forster looking out towards the main town centre and jetties.Because of the bright sunlight and clear day I put the camera setting onto auto aperture and shutter speed and hand held the camera. My camera is a Nikon Coolpix 5700 (digital SLR) and I have photoshop software so I was able to manipulate the image by cropping it into the current format, enhancing colour and contrast and sharpening.

Seal Rocks Lighthouse Beach Cate Keen Date: 13 May 2007 Cate Keen - The image that I have chosen is of Lighthouse Beach at Seal Rocks on the Mid North Coast in New South Wales, Australia. The image was taken on a late summer Sunday afternoon just as the sun was going down and the shore was creeping up onto the beach. Because is was getting quite dark I did use a tripod and an aperture of f16. My camera is a Nikon Coolpix 5700 (digital SLR) and I have photoshop software so I was able to slightly manipulate the image with sharpening and slight colour enhancement, but not to effect the soft warm glow of the image.
Sleepy Bay Russell Stewart Date: 13 May 2007 Russell Stewart

Lens: Canon 17-40 f4 L
Shutter Speed: 6 Seconds
Aperture: f16
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 17mm
Location: Sleepy Bay, Freycinet Peninsula, Tasmania.

For this image the camera was tripod mounted and a long shutter speed of 6 seconds used, as this allowed for smooth "motion" to be captured in the ocean and for a "mist like" appearance where the waves moved over the rocks. The image was shot in RAW format and processed in Capture One. Further enhancements to contrast and saturation where carried out in Photoshop using various techniques.

A Lee 3 Stop Hard Graduated Neutral Density Filter and a Lee 3 Stop Soft Graduated Neutral Density Filter were used at the time of capture, as these helped to balance the lighting and provide a vignette effect.

For this image the camera was tripod mounted and a long shutter speed of 58 seconds used, as this allowed for smooth "motion" to be captured in the ocean. The image was shot in RAW format and processed in Capture One. Further refinements were carried out in Photoshop, although in this case these were very minor and the image is very much "Out Of Camera"

A Lee 3 Stop Hard Graduated Neutral Density Filter and a Lee 3 Stop Soft Graduated Neutral Density Filter were used at the time of capture, as these helped to balance the lighting between sky and foreground, while also providing a slight vignette effect at the bottom of the image.
