It is my belief that digital cameras and kids naturally go together. This summer holidays I gave my 8 year old daughter, Lauren, my Canon G1 to take photos with.

It has become a passion and she is producing some amazing images. Since I was shooting a lot of tripod-mounted infrared images at the time, she wanted a tripod so we went and I let her select a tripod. She made a sensible choice and has been using it since. She did have trouble putting the camera on the tripod, so she wanted a quickmounting plate. Another trip to the camera store and she is happy.

I think the immediate feedback, plus also the option to use the LCD or the viewfinder, is a great help for young children learning photography. She is also quite adept at using the dSLRs I am usually reviewing but is really getting to know her own camera.
